Teasels Wildflower Seeds

Hand harvested wildflower seeds from our Devon nature restoration site.
Teasels are perfect for wildlife, bees, butterflies and a whole host of insect are drawn to their flower heads during the summer, and birds like the goldfinch are perfectly adapted to take the seeds from the spiky flower heads. During the autumn and winter the teasels tall structural form can be covered in spiders webs where wrens hunt for a snack and can be seen going from head to head. Teasels are biennial, growing a rosette of foliage with spiky leaves in the first year and growing a tall stem and flower head in the second year. The height can range from around 1.4m to 2m and is perfect for a wild area. Seed can be sown during the spring and autumn. Sowing rate 1-3g per square metre. Approximately 300 seeds = 1g
Over the last eight years we've been restoring our traditional hay meadow, and we've been seeing year on year an increase in insects, I can say it’s certainly been buzzing. We've also had the opportunity to collect a whole host of wildflower seed. For us it’s been amazing to see the change, the UK has lost 97% of traditional wildflower meadows and there's a real hope that we can turn that around. With that in mind we've put together this page where you can buy some of our seed. I think the saying is true, together we can make a world of difference.
